Early Start to Season

Monday, April 30, 2012

It has been a cold last few days but we are still way a head of last year. With the mositure we have recieved and the warmer weather expected later this week, I would expect things to move along quickly.

Blueberry plants don't pay attention to the calendar (Direct quote from Scott White), but rather the heat accumilation. In normal years, plant emergence in our sprout fields is usually timed closely with the end of our monilinia blight season in our crop season. Velpar and monilinia sprays normally overlap!!

I mention this to remind growers that if you have a lot of ground to cover, you may want to consider starting your pre-emergent herbicides this week.

Look for the next monilinia blight update tomorrow afternoon. Also remember, try and avoid spraying fungicides for monilinia blight when temperatures are near freezing, as damage can occur.
