Here is a summary of the most up-to-date GDD from 13 weather
stations in wild blueberry fields.

Sprout Field’s pre-emergence
herbicides: I am not going to say too much about
herbicides in this update. Please refer to my last update: http://www.novascotiawildblueberryblog.com/2023/04/2023-updates-and-seasonal-outlook-for_28.html.
I think we will start to see plant emergence soon around this weekend (for fields in central NS). I am sure blueberry plants would appreciate this week’s rain.
Crop fields- monilinia blight season:
Some early fields (Southshore counties
fields and some early fields around the Parrsboro area) are under an infection
period this week. Those fields reached 40% F2 early last week. We should be
able to see some symptoms from those areas late next week. In this Friday (May
5)’s post, I will share some information on how to identify monilinia blight symptoms.
Other average Colchester and Cumberland
fields are around 40-50% now. If you are in those areas, but
your fields are not late fields, you should check your fields and get ready for
your application when you find a window. If your fields are typically late or
in high hills, you would be safe for this wet week.
Pictou, Antigonish, Guysborough and Cape
Breton: still early for those areas. However, growers in those
areas should investigate putting herbicides in sprout fields soon.
